The History of Photography

Research is a fundamental part of all creative practice. In the second year you will be writing your Personal study, this is like an elaborate and extended critical link, which includes written work of between 1000 and 3000 words. For your Personal study you will be analysing the work of photographers, like you did for the Street photography analysis.

You will begin your Personal study over the summer break by documenting your research on the history of photography. Understanding the history and origins of photography allows us to evaluate images with greater understanding.  This helps broaden our knowledge of how technology has developed and allows us to learn about different techniques processes.

Document your research by writing 500 -1000 words on the History of Photography.  Here are some examples of areas you might cover:

Give examples of photographers or inventors associated with the birth of photography.

Give an example of the earliest record of photography you can find.

Research and discuss early techniques and processes.

Research and discuss the invention and advance of the camera.

Include dates and use quotes

BIBLIOGRAPHY:  It is important you use a wide range of sources to inform your research.  List all sources used, websites, books, videos etc.  You can list these on a separate document.
